Epidaurus
The famous ancient theatre, which hosts ancient drama during the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, is the main reason to visit the region. Located at the foot of the pine mountain Akro and in the recess of a bay, the village of old Epidaurus is quite nice and is surrounded by an area planted with olive and citrus trees. The most beautiful spot is the picturesque harbor, classic station for yacht lovers – the moored sailboats and the fishing boats make up the typical summer scenery of the settlement.
Mycenae
Mycenae is considered one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. Built on a rocky hill, embraced by the steep bank of a river and in the shadow of the tallest peaks of mount Euboea, the prehistoric acropolis of Mycenae causes awe to the visitor from the first moment he will encounter. The hill was inhabited since the Neolithic period, but during the Bronze Age the settlement of Mycenae bloomed (1350-1200 BC), giving its name to a civilization that flourished around the Greek area. Mycenae is the cradle of the Mycenaean civilization. The impressive walls, made of oversized boulders, are preserved in excellent condition.
Nafplio
One of the most charming cities of Peloponnese and of the favorite destinations for all seasons. In the captivating old town of Nafplion, with the preserved architectural style and the two Venetian castles which crown it, Akronafplia and Palamidi, you can feel the pervasive aura of the first capital of the Greek state. Admire the city by climbing up the steps -999 according to tradition, 857 for others – leading to the imposing Palamidi, which stands on a huge gray rock overlooking the sea. The city view from Akronafplia is equally impressive, and if you follow the pedestrian road of Arvanitia which outskirts the rock of Akronafplia, you will experience an idyllic walk by the sea. In the restored mansions, scattered in the old town of Nafplion, you will find beautiful guesthouses. The core of the old city stretches behind Bouboulina and Miaoulis coast, which is full of café-bars and restaurants with full view to the Bourtzi, the small barren island with the homonymous Venetian fortress. The central pedestrian street of Vasileos Konstantinou will become the reference point in every exploration of the old city, as it crosses the most of it and ends to the Syntagma square, the meeting point that strongly resembles to Italian piazza. Here is the archaeological museum, the Vouleutikon which housed the first parliament of the free Greek state and the Old Mosque.
