Ancient Monuments & Milestones

The ancient name of Loutraki city was "Thermae" in honor of the goddess Artemis Thermia, protector of therapeutic thermal waters. The spa was a cultural crossroads because of its unique combination of central location and its therapeutic thermal waters, which had made it famous resort of Ancient Greece. The Thermae was also the beloved city of the Olympian gods Hera and Apollo, in honor of who there were built temples in the area. Entering the site, there are preserved parts of ancient Diolkos, constructed by the tyrant Periander the Corinthian in 600 BC.

 

Religious Tourism

Loutraki and its surrounding area are ideal for visitors with religious and spiritual quests. From the core of the ancient of holy temples as Heraion in the Heraion lagoon and the temple of Apollo in ancient Corinth, to the steps of Apostle Paul in Corinth, during the early Christian period. The pilgrims have the opportunity to admire samples of Byzantine art in the form of frescoes that adorn the interior of the rock cave where the relics of Saint Patapios were discovered and kept.

Loutraki is a well-known sports tourism destination internationally! The mild Mediterranean climate, technologically robust sports and hotel infrastructure of the region create the ideal environment for conducting sporting events and sporting preparations of professional and amateur teams.
